I am begging you to please stop using bootleg marketers. They are causing a lot of problems in our industry and profession. And a lot of companies, mainly small businesses are wasting money on the most important part of growing their business.
This year I have already experienced several small business owners who have been "taken". They pay a bootleg web designer who builds a site and won't give them rights to the domain or update the site unless they receive a "ransom". That's totally unprofessional. Also, I have heard about bootleg graphic designers developing logos that someone else has in another state or something they found on the internet. That's horrible!
Here is my simple advice. Don't use bootleg marketers. Here is how you identify a bootleg.
1. They are pitching price instead of a solution to your need.
2. They don't do a thorough assessment of your company's marketing goals.
3. They don't provide you with a solution based proposal identifying your challenges and solutions to your problem.
REAL MARKETERS ARE NOT CHEAP. BUT THEY ARE WORTH THE INVESTMENT.
